The Scottish Fisheries Museum is a national museum telling the story of the fishing industry from its earliest days to the present. There’s been fishing activity on our site since the 13th century and all of our buildings were once used by fishermen and shore-based fishery workers.

At the heart of this story are the boats, fish and folk that the industry has been based around for centuries. Although technology and the kinds of fish caught have changed over time, people remain central to the fishing story. We love sharing our Nationally Recognised Collection with our visitors and highlighting the importance of fishing to Scottish history and heritage.

We hope you enjoy exploring our collection with the help of this app. We’ve highlighted some of our star objects and stories under the themes of Boats, Fish and Folk to allow you to discover more about the fishing industry’s remarkable story.
